“I have been second so many times, finally I am first” is how Jilles Groskamp describe his win in the 2009 European Touring Car Championship. Jilles claimed TQ ahead of Tamiya teammate Victor Wilck and Ronald Volker. In Leg 1 of the event, Jilles did a 360 in front of the field which dropped him down to 4^th and handed the lead and leg 1 win to Tamiya teammate and defending European champion Marc Rheinard.

The leg got even worse as Jilles got spun again and got stuck in the infield and fell from 4^th to 8^th, which he attributed to a poor tire. In leg 2, Jilles changed his luck and led start to finish to claim the win. The final round, Jilles needed a bit of luck on his side if he was to overtake his teammate and leader marc Rheinard for the championship. While running 2^nd and 3^rd, Rheinard and Ronald Volker made contact sending Volker into the infield and the stewards saw fit to give Rheinard a stop go penalty for rough driving. His teammates bad luck turned into his good luck allowing him to claim the championship over Marc Rheinard and Ronald Volker who finished 2^nd and 3^rd overall respectively.
