OK..............We are all settled into the new house and I have finally reached a milestone in my life of owning a brand new home that I built from the ground up!!!!!!! Very exciting time for me. I have a workshop now too....for my Tamiya cars and my cycling adventures. I just finished setting up my workshop with air an compressor a paint booth, permanent mounted power supply and chargers this place is hooked up....the funny part about moving was that I had so much RC stuff it was pathetic. I had 6 charger and 3 power supplies that I totally forgot about somehow and enough tools to put on and rc clinic for 100 people....lol, i dint even want to talk about tires ooh my soo many wheels and tires and spare parts.!!!! Anyway looking forward to the speedtech race at Tamiya! Can't wait to see my team mates and old friends!

TRF 417........To start the new year!

First I would like to say Happy New Year to Tamiya and the team, make this your best year ever! On another note....I finally got out and put my TRF 417  on the track at West Coast RC. I got there kind of late due to wet weather and traffic conditions and managed to put one pack in the car for testing right before the start of the 1st qualifier. I made a couple of adjustments and I was absolutley blown away at how good the car was through the corners...this car really rotates well and is very smooth. I am very impressed with all the subtle changes Tamiya has made in the kit. 1st qualifier the car was on TQ pace, which was my second battery pack in the car believe it or not. The 2nd qaulifier I made a few more adjustments to fine tune the car and it again was on a new TQ pace, unfortunately in the Main I had a small technical problem unrelated to the chassis that put me out of the race.

On my second attempt this recent Tuesday the car was off the hook (aka dialed), and I battled for TQ consitently which put a huge smile on my face, its a really nice feeling when you can put your car on the track with confidence knowing that you have a competitive setup. I ended up second on the grid and finished second in the Main....not bad for the first 2 outings.....I am getting closer and closer to victory  in the highly contested 17.5 open class at Westcoast RC,  I really cannot wait for the next race.  Sad to say still no open modified racing yet, but I think its comming..... people are getting geared up to run mod after the new year! I will be certainly ready!

Well hopefully this year we will have a couple more on-road drivers to put in the field! Working together as a team always puts up the best results. If you want my 2 cents.........The 417 is "The Total Package"!

Happy New Year!

Well yall! What is up?

I'm finally comming out of my whole after that Reedy Race butt kicking! man was it tough time!

Well I finally got my 201 built and ready to race some offroad.  It seems like here in southern california the touring scene is dying slowly ...its kind of like every body just quit all of a sudden...I dont get it. There are several  tracks that are currently running but none of them seem to cater to modified racing, more and more people are more prone to run 17.5 which to me... does me no justice, but I will continue  to run on-road since I love it so much...cant wait for the IIC. Anyway I will post pics of my 201 as soon as my body arrives from the painter. I hope eveyone is having a good summer!

Lets Get Ready to Rumble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well it's time to get busy! I am finally all set with everything I need to compete for the next couple of months.  Several big races comming up within the next 2 months so I guess you can say I am in full race mode. First the Regionals are appraoching this weekend at my home track. The Ventura Roadrunners are hosting the Region 12 On-Road championships in Camarillo, California this weekend..... it should be very competitive but also fun, the Roadrunners really now how to put on a show.  I expect to do quite well seeing that this is my home track...please stay tuned for the results and my write up of the event.

Next we have the 2010 Reedy Race held in Union City California at Nor-Cal hobbies on Memorial weekend... I have raced there several times before but I'm especially looking forward to seeing some good friends and also to battle it out with them on the track as we have done in the past.  I also just found out recently I am eligible to run the invitational Class this year...it should be very exciting...this is where you want to shine, so I am very excited to have the opportunity to display my abilities!

This year I have choose to run Speed Passion for power. I ran Speed Passion last weekend at WCRC and it performed flawlessly......I really like it, its very smooth! For batteries the SMC's are doing me some justice..charge after charge they have always shown up to perform. Also  Airtronics has really stepped up in assisting me with whatever I need....thanks  to Craig Kaplan. So this year should be awesome, I'm happy to be with Tamiya USA!........ plenty of onroad & offroad racing to come! Please Stay tuned.

 Cheers

Good afternoon Team its Superbowl Sunday and believe it or not I am stuffed with chips, guacamole, Blue Moon, chili and lots of veggies and dip.....as should be expected.  Well on Saturday I finally got to stretch out the legs on my 416 and  all I can say is Wow!!!!! and this is how it all went down.

Friday - After a long day of working, one of my closest friends Allen Hewitt called and said he was heading over to crash so that we could get our cars ready  to race at the highly competitive on-road track (West Coast RC Raceway) in La Mirada, Ca. What I found out during my maintenance time was that my 416 was not even close to being balanced. I only had the car for a few weeks so the maintenance time was much needed.  3 ounces later the car was at 1422 grams and fully balanced. I think I ended up hitting the sack around 1am and slept in confidence knowing that Saturday was going to be a good day!

Saturday - Racing started at 1pm and I finally got to the track at 10am for some much needed practice. I really don't get to practice that much during the week seeing that I usually work between 55-60 hours a week at my day job, so I have to take advantage of any practice opportunity I can get. Soon as I put the car on the track and went down the straight away I knew instantly the car was hooked up..... it drove like a dream and the smoother I drove it the faster it went. I needed to put down 13.0s to 13.2s lap times to be competitive but as practice went on I was doing consistent 13.0's, so I knew instantly I was in the main and I could possibly do some damage and put some people to sleep as the day progressed.

1st Qualifier - TQ'd the round! 23/5:01

2nd Qualifier -  I started out the 2nd qualifier right where I left off and was on a 24 lap run and I even managed to throw in a 12.7 lap time to help boost my confidence and I somehow found myself in a 2 way battle for the lead until I made a small mistake and lost TQ by 1 second. There was no reason for me to put my head down seeing that it was my mistake and my car was clearly faster. In addition the battle for the lead was with the local track hero who has won the last 4 meetings and has had the opportunity to practice daily at WCRC....so it really turned out to be a good day being that I was the 2nd qualifier for the main in the heavily contested 13.5 expert division.

A-Main - I knew that all I had to do was stay close and wait for an opportunity, which I did seeing that my 416 was handling quit well, I found myself braking a lot in the corners so that I wouldn't inadvertently hit the leader, I found my self racing  out of the line to make a pass and then it happened....I rode a corner just a tad bit too much and rolled it.

Well on to next week.....but I think I opened a lot of people's eyes on Saturday! It's only gonna get better from here! Stay tuned for more updates as the year progresses!

Happy Valentine's Day and have a good week!

The Sandman!

Welcome!

Well Folks its 2010 and I am now a member of the prestigious Tamiya USA/TEAM TRF. What a wild ride it has been over the last 7 months and I am extremely anxious to ge the new chassis (416X) up and running. Well to be honest I ran it last weekend and did quite well, not bad for its first outing, still making small changes tho but getting closer and closer every lipo pack. I am also quit anxious to run the 801 platform in off-road, so this should be an exciting year and I look forward to representing Tamiya USA  on and off the track!

Good luck to all of you and  make it count!
