SILVER STATE RACE, LAS VEGAS

Hi everyone a little late on my blog, but I had a lot of homework to catch up on. We had left our house at 2:00 o'clock in the morning Thursday, arrived in Las Vegas at 6:30am ready for practice.

I felt really good about the track and our buggies, until our second tank on our buggy, we broke the engine mount on our brand new OS speed that we just broke in with our first tank in our truggy practice. You could imagine what that felt like, we don't have a motor sponsor yet, so that was a $500.00 practice run. We had another OS speed in the box to break in that evening on the on road track next to the dirt track, I got it somewhat broke in, I don't think it was enough to get the right tune' though. Anyway I at least had a motor to run, even though we had to swap motor for each of our buggy/truggy heats Friday. Swapping motor from one buggy to another is never good between different heats, screws come loose etc…

My first heat went ok in the buggy, just had some driving issues, I think it was worrying if I would it least finish without breaking another motor. First truggy heat fared well, just did not have the track down like I thought I did in practice, but we finished. Second qualifier was up new diff oils, shock oils,M2c 4 shoe clutch's, and a new OS speed just starting to tune in, I think my smile on my face was bigger than VEGAS itself, until the third lap in warm up, I felt something strange, the motor kept running on and couldn't get the feel of the buggy, something was wrong.

It was about the sixth lap in the warm up that my clutch bell howled a horrible sound, and instantly stopped. When the turn marshal brought my buggy in the pits, my heart sank; you guessed it' broke my OS speed'. We didn't bring enough tissues for this race, I couldn't believe it' my mind felt good, my buggy's felt good, but the motors couldn't give me a break. Well I missed my second qualifier in both buggy and truggy, with no motors to run, we started to pack our bags and call it a day.

I told my dad, maybe someone will sell us a motor, we had asked around, but no luck. While I was packing up, my good friend Collin Herzog gave us a 10 gallon ninja Os to run, we didn't care about 10 gallons, the fact that there was still a chance in the dessert. We got it tuned in to our liking on the on road track for the third qualifier Saturday, it sounded really good for 10 gallons. My driving felt good, but I was doubt full if the motor would really give me what I needed to keep up with guys that most likely had more compression than I did. I finished the last qualifiers in both buggy and truggy, the motor lost its tune in both cars, but I was just having fun on the track, not really expecting to win.

Well I qualified in the C-Main in both buggy and truggy, ready to have some fun in the mains for good or bad, I told my dad make sure the buggy's are setup , for 'because I was planning to lay it down and go big 'GLADIATOR' style, I had nothing to lose 'right'. C-Main buggy was up, broke a rear shock tower screw, and forgot to put the heavy duty one's that I ordered before the race. That left the truggy to the rest of the lions. Well like I said' GLADIATOR STYLE".

I bumped from the C-main, somehow I got the motor tuned in by leaning out the mid range, and wow the truggy took off like a rocket ship, B-main was up, again lost tune, but richened the mid range, and got a better tune to bump me into the A-MAIN EVENT, for just turning 13 years old, I guess that was my birthday present. Dead last in the A-MAIN, my dad leaned the engine out, crossed our fingers and prayed to the RC Gods, and yes they answered with a 'WIN' at the 2010 SILVER STATE,LAS VAGAS. Thanks to the entire TAMIYA TEAM and STAFF  for giving me this opportunity to race and have fun; RYAN LUTZ, JIMMY WRIGHT, BRAD SHEAR, DAVID JUN, FRED MEDEL, AND ALL MY SPONSORS(KoProPo radio, M2c clutches, and my PIT POP(DAD), who made all this possible.  TAMIYA ROCKS, and ALWAYS HAVE FUN.  Ricky Racer
